Sponsored by some of telecommunications biggest names, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless, TeliaSonera and QinetiQ, The Product and Service Assembly Initiative is a collaboration of vendors and service providers who are looking to solve today’s largest operational problem: How to create an IT reference architecture which will:
- Streamline the NGN product/service lifecycle
- Bridge the service creation gap between OSS/BSS/Service Execution
- Reduce the cost of service/product production
The long and expensive process of creating and launching new services whilst using disparate systems caused by a fragmented decision process is a problem which Service Providers around the world are faced with. Today, buying decisions are based around the pressure of solving an immediate problem, for example, how to automate inventory management. However, the process of Service Fufillment from CRM to OSS to Billing is the sum of many parts and processes and functions need to be addressed as part of a larger ‘Service Factory’ in order to streamline the process.

Product and Service Assembly Architecture

"A major obstacle to us deploying a consistent product set across our 30+ businesses is the amount of time and effort required to define products, pricing, processes and rules in each of our local CRM and provisioning systems. The results of the Product and Service Assembly line initiative will demonstrate a way for us to centralize this sort of activity without compromising local CRM and billing capabilities. For Cable and Wireless this would be a major step forward."
